Córdoba
Córdoba is a city in Andalusia, southern Spain, on the Guadalquivir River. It was the capital of the Umayyad emirate and later caliphate of al-Andalus, founded by Abd al-Rahman I after the fall of the Umayyad Caliphate in the east, and one of the largest cities of medieval Europe. Under the Almohad Caliphate it remained a major centre until it fell to Castile in 1236.
