Sanggyeong
Sanggyeong, the Upper Capital, was the main capital of the kingdom of Balhae, in the Mudan River valley near modern Ning'an in Heilongjiang, China. King Mun moved the court there around 756, and apart from a short interval it remained the capital until the Khitans conquered Balhae in 926. Laid out on the grid plan of the Tang capital Chang'an, its walls, palace foundations and temple sites survive.
