Shivanasamudra is an island town on the Kaveri River in Karnataka, India, beside waterfalls where the river drops from the Deccan plateau. In 1902 the state of Mysore opened a hydroelectric station there, one of the first in Asia, to supply the Kolar Gold Fields, and from 1905 it lit Bangalore. The power station still operates.
