Bengaluru
Bengaluru, known until 2014 as Bangalore, is the capital of the Indian state of Karnataka. Founded in 1537 by the chief Kempe Gowda, it was held by Mysore under Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan and became a large British military cantonment in the 19th century. The industries and scientific institutions founded there under the princely state of Mysore laid the ground for its role as India's leading technology centre.
