Srirangapatna

Also known as Seringapatam

Srirangapatna, historically Seringapatam, is a town on an island in the Kaveri river near Mysore in southern India. It was the capital of the Wodeyar kings of Mysore from 1610 and then of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, who fortified it. British forces besieged it in 1792 and stormed it in 1799, when Tipu died defending the fort.
