Bengkulu
Bengkulu, formerly Bencoolen, is a city on the south-west coast of Sumatra in Indonesia and the capital of Bengkulu province. The English East India Company founded a pepper-trading post there in 1685 and built Fort Marlborough from 1714. Britain ceded Bencoolen to the Netherlands under the Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1824. Sukarno was exiled there by the Dutch from 1938 to 1942.
