Siege of Yanmen

615 · 7th century

The Siege of Yanmen was the encirclement of Emperor Yang of Sui by the Eastern Turkic ruler Shibi Khagan in 615, at Yanmen commandery in northern Shanxi. Caught on a tour of the northern frontier, the emperor was besieged for about a month until relief armies approached and the Turks withdrew. The humiliation damaged Sui prestige as rebellions spread across China.
