Taliesin

fl. 6th century · 6th century

Taliesin was a Welsh poet of the late 6th century, one of the earliest named poets of the British language. A group of praise poems in the Book of Taliesin, addressed to Urien of Rheged and his son Owain, are thought by many scholars to be his genuine work. In later medieval legend he became a magical figure, the chief of bards.
