The Battle of Algiers (film)
The Battle of Algiers is a 1966 film directed by Gillo Pontecorvo, recreating the struggle between the FLN and French paratroopers in Algiers in 1956–1957. Shot in black and white in the Casbah with mostly non-professional actors, it won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. Long banned in France, it became a widely studied work on insurgency and colonial war.
