1824–1883 · 19th century

Tokugawa Yoshikatsu (1824–1883) was lord of the Owari domain from 1849. Punished in the Ansei purge for opposing Ii Naosuke, he later commanded the shogunate's first expedition against Chōshū in 1864. During the Meiji Restoration he sided with the new imperial government, and Owari helped bring other domains over to it.
