Transamund II of Spoleto
Transamund II was Lombard Duke of Spoleto from 724 who acted almost as an independent ruler. He allied with Pope Gregory III and the Duke of Benevento against King Liutprand, who deposed him in 739; he regained the duchy in 740 but was finally overthrown in 742 and forced to become a cleric. His career shows the conflict between the Lombard kings and the southern duchies.
