Uganda People's Congress
The Uganda People's Congress is a political party founded in 1960 under the leadership of Milton Obote. In alliance with Kabaka Yekka it formed Uganda's first government at independence in 1962. It ruled until Idi Amin's coup in 1971, returned to power after the disputed elections of 1980, and was overthrown again in 1985. It drew its support mainly from northern and eastern Uganda.
