United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758

1971 · 20th century · Also known as Resolution 2758

United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758, adopted on 25 October 1971, recognised the representatives of the People's Republic of China as the only lawful representatives of China at the United Nations. It expelled the representatives of Chiang Kai-shek's Republic of China, which had held China's seat, including its permanent place on the Security Council, since 1945. Most states soon switched recognition to Beijing.
