Xinca people

The Xinca are an indigenous people of south-eastern Guatemala, living mainly in the department of Santa Rosa and neighbouring areas near the Pacific coast. Unlike most indigenous Guatemalans they are not Maya, and their language, Xinca, is unrelated to the Mayan languages. It is now nearly extinct, though the community has worked to revive it and is officially recognised alongside the Maya and Garífuna.
