Zbruch River
The Zbruch is a river in western Ukraine, a left tributary of the Dniester about 245 kilometres long, separating the historical regions of Galicia and Podolia. From 1772 to 1918 it formed part of the border between the Austrian and Russian empires, and between the world wars it was the border between Poland and Soviet Ukraine. The Zbruch Idol, a carved stone pillar of the pre-Christian Slavs, was found in it in 1848.
