kingdom · China, Tibet and Mongolia
Da Changhe
Origins
Zheng Maisi, a powerful minister descended from a Tang official captured by Nanzhao, killed the Meng royal family in 902 and proclaimed the kingdom of Da Changhe, keeping the capital at Yangjumie near modern Dali.
Rule and society
Little is known of its government, which seems to have continued Nanzhao institutions; sources are sparse. Three Zheng rulers reigned, and the court was weakened by rivalry among the great families of the Erhai region.
Decline and legacy
In 928 the official Yang Ganzhen had Zheng Longdan, the last ruler, killed and placed Zhao Shanzheng on the throne as ruler of Da Tianxing. Within a decade the Duan family founded the more durable Dali Kingdom.
Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
