Ghodasar State

1600 CE – 1948 CE (approx.) · capital Ghodasar

A small chiefship of central Gujarat, one of the minor hereditary estates that survived under British protection.

Origins

Ghodasar was a small estate in the plains of central Gujarat, held by a local chiefly family from around 1600. Little is recorded of its founding.

Rule and society

Its Thakor ruled a few villages and paid tribute to the overlords of Gujarat, the Mughal governors and later the Gaekwads of Baroda, before coming under British supervision. Standard references give few details of its rulers.

Decline and legacy

Ghodasar was merged into Bombay Province in 1948 and became part of Gujarat in 1960.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
