Jasdan State

1665 CE – 1948 CE (approx.) · capital Jasdan

The leading Kathi state of central Kathiawar, ruled by a Khachar Kathi Darbar from Jasdan.

Origins

Jasdan was held by the Khachar clan of Kathis, a pastoral warrior people who gave Kathiawar its name. The Khachars established their rule at Jasdan around 1665 and expanded it through the 18th century.

Rule and society

The Darbar ruled cotton and grazing country, paying tribute to the Gaekwads and Junagadh before British protection after 1807. It was among the larger Kathi holdings, though few details of individual rulers are widely recorded.

Decline and legacy

Jasdan merged into the United State of Saurashtra in 1948 and became part of Gujarat in 1960. It is now a town in Rajkot district.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
