Achyuta Deva Raya

r. 1529–1542 · 16th century

Achyuta Deva Raya was emperor of Vijayanagara from 1529 to 1542, succeeding his half-brother Krishnadevaraya. He kept most of the empire's territory, campaigning in the south and recovering the Raichur Doab from Bijapur, but faced growing rivalry from Aliya Rama Raya and other nobles. The Achyutaraya temple at Hampi is named after him.
