Adolfo Suárez
Adolfo Suárez was a Spanish politician who as prime minister from 1976 to 1981 led the transition from Franco's dictatorship to democracy. Appointed by King Juan Carlos I, he pushed through the Law for Political Reform, legalised political parties including the Communists, won the first free elections in 1977 with the Union of the Democratic Centre, and oversaw the Constitution of 1978. He resigned in 1981, shortly before an attempted military coup.
