Aghsu

Also known as New Shamakhi

Aghsu is a town in central Azerbaijan, on the plain south of Shamakhi. In 1734 Nader Shah destroyed Shamakhi and moved its people to a new town here, known as New Shamakhi. In the 18th century it served alternately with Old Shamakhi as the capital of the Shirvan Khanate.
