Shirvanshah

Shirvanshah, "king of Shirvan", was the title of the rulers of Shirvan in the eastern Caucasus. Used under the Sasanians, it was revived in 861 by the Arab governor Haytham ibn Khalid and borne by his Yazidid descendants and later by the Derbendi line until the Safavids annexed Shirvan in 1538. Their capitals were Shamakhi and, later, Baku.
