Ahmad Yar Khan

1902–1979 · 20th century

Ahmad Yar Khan was the last ruling Khan of Kalat, from 1933 to 1955. At the end of British rule in 1947 he declared Kalat independent, but in March 1948 he acceded to Pakistan. He then headed the Baluchistan States Union as Khan-e-Azam until it was merged into West Pakistan in 1955, and he later became governor of Balochistan.
