Akuapem Twi

Akuapem Twi is a dialect of the Akan language spoken on the Akuapem ridge in south-eastern Ghana. In the 19th century Basel missionaries, above all Johann Gottlieb Christaller, chose it as the basis of written Twi, publishing a grammar, a dictionary and a complete Bible translation, finished in 1871. It long served as the standard literary form of Akan.
