al-Nasir Dawud

1206–1258 · 13th century

al-Nasir Dawud was an Ayyubid prince, son of al-Mu'azzam Isa. He briefly ruled Damascus from 1227 until his uncles took it in 1229, after which he held the fortress of Kerak east of the Dead Sea as his principality. A noted poet and scholar, he spent decades in shifting alliances among the Ayyubids and lost Kerak to his own sons in the 1240s.
