Person
al-Adil
Al-Adil was the brother of Saladin and sultan of the Ayyubid realm from 1200 to 1218. After Saladin's death in 1193, rival heirs fought for Egypt and Syria, and al-Adil's patient statesmanship allowed him to reunify most of the realm by 1200. His descendants ruled the main Ayyubid branches, though the family remained prone to internal division.
