Alise-Sainte-Reine
Alise-Sainte-Reine is a village in the Côte-d'Or department of Burgundy, France, below Mont Auxois, the site of the Gallic oppidum of Alesia. Excavations ordered by Napoleon III in the 1860s confirmed it as the place where Julius Caesar besieged Vercingetorix in 52 BCE, and a colossal statue of Vercingetorix was raised there in 1865. A museum park on the battle opened in 2012.
