Antanosy

Also known as Antanosy people

The Antanosy are a Malagasy people of the Anosy region in south-eastern Madagascar, around Taolagnaro (Fort-Dauphin). From around 1500 they were ruled by the Zafiraminia, a clan claiming Muslim origins, and in 1643 French settlers founded Fort-Dauphin in their land. Conflicts with the settlers ended the French colony in 1674.
