Anti-Rightist Campaign
The Anti-Rightist Campaign was a political purge in the People's Republic of China launched in 1957, after the Hundred Flowers movement had invited intellectuals to criticise the Communist Party. More than half a million people, many of them intellectuals and officials, were labelled 'rightists', losing their jobs or being sent to labour camps. The campaign silenced criticism just before the Great Leap Forward.
