Aristobulus II

d. 49 BCE · 1st century BCE

Aristobulus II was Hasmonean king and high priest of Judaea from 67 to 63 BCE, a younger son of Alexander Jannaeus and Salome Alexandra. His civil war with his elder brother Hyrcanus II drew in Pompey, who took Jerusalem in 63 BCE and led him captive to Rome. He later escaped and was poisoned by Pompeian partisans in 49 BCE.
