Maccabees

The Maccabees were the priestly family of Mattathias and his five sons, among them Judas Maccabeus, Jonathan and Simon, who led the Jewish revolt against the Seleucid Empire from 167 BCE. The name comes from Judas's epithet 'Maccabeus' and is often applied to the whole family. Their victories led to the Hasmonean dynasty, which ruled an independent Judaea until the Roman conquest.
