Arta, Greece
Arta is a city in Epirus, north-western Greece, on the Arachthos river near the Ambracian Gulf, standing on the site of ancient Ambracia. In the 13th century it was the capital of the Despotate of Epirus, whose rulers built Byzantine churches such as the Panagia Parigoritissa. Its old stone bridge over the Arachthos is famous from Greek folk song.
