Bakil
The Bakil are the largest tribal confederation of northern Yemen, spread across the highlands north and east of Sanaa, and with the Hashid one of the two great tribal blocs of the country. For centuries they supplied warriors to the Zaydi imams and to their rivals, and after the 1962 revolution their leaders remained powerful in the politics of the Yemen Arab Republic and unified Yemen.
