Yemen
Yemen is a region in the south-west of the Arabian Peninsula, historically a centre of trade in incense and a link between Arabia, the Horn of Africa and the Indian Ocean. The Aksumite Empire extended its control over Yemen in the sixth century before being expelled by the Sasanians. It was later ruled at times by the Ayyubid Empire and the Ottoman Empire, and the Walashma princes took refuge there before founding the Adal Sultanate.
