Aksumite Empire

Also known as Aksum, Kingdom of Aksum, Aksumites, Aksumite

The Aksumite Empire was a trading state centred on Aksum in the northern Ethiopian highlands and present-day Eritrea, flourishing from roughly the first to the seventh century CE. Through the port of Adulis it traded with Rome, Arabia and India, minted its own coins and adopted Christianity under King Ezana. It is regarded as an ancestor of the Ethiopian Empire and contributed to the end of the Kushite Empire.
