Adulis

Adulis was an ancient port on the Red Sea coast of present-day Eritrea. It was the main maritime gateway of the Aksumite Empire, linking the Ethiopian highlands to trade with Egypt, Arabia, the Roman world and India. Goods such as ivory passed through it, and its commerce underpinned Aksum's wealth.
