Aden
Aden is a port city in southern Yemen, built in the crater of an extinct volcano near the entrance to the Red Sea. For centuries a hub of trade between India, Arabia and Egypt under Yemeni dynasties such as the Zurayids and Rasulids, it was taken by Britain in 1839 and became a major coaling station and colony. It was the capital of South Yemen from 1967 to 1990.
