Gulf of Aden
The Gulf of Aden is an arm of the Indian Ocean between the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, linking the Red Sea to the Arabian Sea. Its ports, such as Zeila, were vital outlets for trade from the Ethiopian highlands. The Adal Sultanate drew much of its wealth and political orientation from its position along this coast.
