Horn of Africa
The Horn of Africa is the peninsula of north-eastern Africa comprising present-day Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti and Somalia. It was the arena of rivalry between the Adal Sultanate and the Ethiopian Empire. In the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries it was the focus of the Italian Empire's colonial ambitions in Eritrea, Somalia and Ethiopia.
