Batán Grande

Also known as Sicán Archaeological Complex

Batán Grande is an archaeological complex in the La Leche valley of Lambayeque on the north coast of Peru, now within the Pómac Forest sanctuary. It was the religious capital of the Middle Sicán culture around 900 to 1100, with monumental adobe platform mounds such as Huaca Loro. Elite tombs excavated there contained large quantities of gold objects, showing Sicán mastery of metalworking.
