Battle of Andkhud

1204 · 13th century

The Battle of Andkhud was fought in 1204 near Andkhoy in northern Afghanistan, where an army of the Khwarazmshah Muhammad II, reinforced by the Qara Khitai, crushed the Ghurid sultan Mu'izz al-Din Muhammad, who escaped with difficulty. The defeat ended Ghurid expansion into Khurasan, destroyed their prestige in the west and encouraged revolts in their Indian territories.
