Qara Khitai
The Qara Khitai, or Western Liao, was a Central Asian state founded in the twelfth century by Khitan refugees from northern China after the fall of the Liao dynasty. It defeated the Seljuk sultan Ahmad Sanjar at the Battle of Qatwan in 1141, destroying Seljuk Empire authority in Central Asia. Its lands later passed to the Mongols and formed the core of the Chagatai Empire.
