Transoxiana
Transoxiana is the historical name for the region of Central Asia between the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers, roughly corresponding to modern Uzbekistan and neighbouring areas. Its oasis cities, including Samarkand and Bukhara, were centres of trade and learning on the Silk Road. It was the heartland of the Timurid Empire, a contested part of the Chagatai Empire, and a launching point for the Seljuk Empire.
