Transkei
Transkei was a Bantustan, or homeland, for Xhosa-speaking people in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa, with its capital at Umtata (Mthatha). It received self-government in 1963 and in 1976 became the first homeland declared independent under apartheid, a status no other country recognised. It was reincorporated into South Africa in 1994.
