Transitional National Government

2000–2004 · 21st century

The Transitional National Government was an interim government of Somalia formed in 2000 at a peace conference at Arta in Djibouti, the first attempt at a national government since the state collapsed in 1991. Led by President Abdiqasim Salad Hassan, it controlled only parts of Mogadishu and was rejected by many faction leaders, and it gave way to the Transitional Federal Government in 2004.
