Ghazni
Ghazni is a city in eastern Afghanistan on the road between Kabul and Kandahar. From 977 it was the capital of the Ghaznavid Empire, whose ruler Mahmud of Ghazni filled it with palaces, mosques and the spoils of his Indian raids, making it a centre of Persian culture. The Ghurids sacked it in 1150 and later ruled from it; two Ghaznavid minarets still stand.
