Battle of Celaya

1915 · 20th century · Part of the Mexican Revolution

The Battle of Celaya, in April 1915, was a pair of engagements near Celaya in Guanajuato in which Constitutionalist forces under Álvaro Obregón defeated Pancho Villa's Division of the North. Using trenches, barbed wire and machine guns, Obregón broke repeated cavalry charges and inflicted heavy losses. The defeat ended Villa's bid for national power in the Mexican Revolution.
