Battle of Ko Chang

1941 · 20th century · Part of the Franco-Thai War

The Battle of Ko Chang was a naval engagement fought on 17 January 1941 off the island of Ko Chang in the Gulf of Thailand, during the Franco-Thai War. A French squadron led by the light cruiser Lamotte-Picquet surprised the Thai fleet at anchor and sank or disabled several ships, including the coastal defence ship Thonburi, without losing a vessel. It was the main French success of the war.
