Battle of Kỳ Hòa

1861 · 19th century · Also known as Battle of Ky Hoa · Part of the Cochinchina campaign

The Battle of Kỳ Hòa was fought on 24–25 February 1861 near Saigon, when a French force under Admiral Léonard Charner stormed the Vietnamese fortified lines commanded by Nguyễn Tri Phương. The victory broke the siege of the French garrison in Saigon and allowed France to occupy the surrounding provinces, leading to the Treaty of Saigon of 1862.
