Battle of Moel-y-don

1282 · 13th century · Part of the Conquest of Wales by Edward I

The Battle of Moel-y-don was fought on 6 November 1282 on the Menai Strait, during Edward I's final war against Llywelyn ap Gruffudd. An English force under Luke de Tany crossed from Anglesey by a bridge of boats in breach of a truce and was routed by the Welsh, many men drowning in the rising tide. The victory did not stop the English conquest of Gwynedd, completed in 1283.
